“Touch me. I’m Famous.”

Ali + Sturges + Heidi take Prague’s John Lennon Wall

to the tune of  “Octopus’s Garden” by The Beatles

I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade
He’d let us in, knows where we’ve been
In his octopus’ garden in the shade

I’d ask my friends to come and see
An octopus’ garden with me
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade.

We would be warm below the storm
In our little hideaway beneath the waves
Resting our head on the sea bed
In an octopus’ garden near a cave

We would sing and dance around
because we know we can’t be found
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden in the shade

We would shout and swim about
The coral that lies beneath the waves
(Lies beneath the ocean waves)
Oh what joy for every girl and boy
Knowing they’re happy and they’re safe
(Happy and they’re safe)

We would be so happy you and me
No one there to tell us what to do
I’d like to be under the sea
In an octopus’ garden with you.

From May to at least August 2008 this monster stood in two sightly and not-so-slightly forms on the Wall just a hop, skip, and jump away from the famed Charles Bridge. See the transformation that became my first and second ever attempt at street art:

Laying the first lines on octopus number one, a hot pink and white beauty.

Such a standout! Decked out with a trident and letters.

The artists, ourselves. This guy had the life-span of one month, and then this…

Fair enough, the vandals left our names untouched, but there message was short-lived.

Attacking the wall in June with vengeance. This time we only had left over paint from studio and not fancy-pants spray paint. The result reflects the handiwork of two nearly fully trained architecture majors. Ashamed, yes, favorite, of course.

This hideous creature dominates the streetscape. It’s glasses complete the look. And we just HAD to add “please love me”. A statement about inner v. outer beauty perhaps?

Two months later I returned to the wall to see octo #2 still ablaze and someone had added “Touch me. I’m famous.” Yes, this dude is famous (he is on a few rolls on stranger’s flickrs) and someday the dudettes that made him will be too!
